Summary: Great Product !!!
Comment: I originally tried the Makita 1101 plunge router but found the balance and plunge action just ok. Turning the power switch on/off is also difficult and dangerous (not unlike many of the other router out there with the switch mounter on top). The Makita D-handle is truely awesome. It is incredibly well balanced, easy to turn on/off, and has a smooth, powerful, and relatively quite motor. Also, can't say enough about Amazon's service. I have bought many expensive items from them and have always been 100% satisfied.

Summary: Excellent Router
Comment: I have owned the Makita for about 3 years. I needed a router with more HP and variable speed to compliment my PC 690 kit. I chose the Makita over the Bosch because I could use my PC accessories with it. I have not been disappointed. It has been a reliable performer. I am a hobbyist and have used it on many projects thus far, including a full set of kitchen cabinets with 31 doors. It is super smooth and very quiet. You can easily hear the bit cutting the wood over the sound of the motor. Even my wife commented on the diminished decibels - she claims the noise from the PC sent shivers up her spine above all other tools including my portable planer!

I have received years of dependable service from my PC. That said, the workmanship of the Makita excels over the PC. Small things stand out vs. the PC such as the machining of the collets, quality of collet wrenches and powercord, etc. And as another reviewer stated, its just much nicer to use. I always reach for it first.

Comment: This D handle router is very easy to operate and adjust. The ablity to route with one hand if necessary makes this a great little router, also it has the power to help you pull through the routing. This router is worth it and you won't be dis-satisfied.

Summary: Makita varible speed problems
Comment: I have had my Makita variable speed R1101 router in the shop for repair three different times in the space of 2 years. First the varible speed switch went out. Major bucks to repair! Second the router shaft began to wobble. This was repaired at no cost, however it still had some vibration and a slight wobble. Third the "new" varible speed switch crashed again. This time the shop removed the variable speed switch at no charge. Finally after a few months the wobble returned with a vengence. This tool would not even make a good boat anchor!
